Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty)

Arm lift surgery, also known as Brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape the upper arms by removing loose skin and excess fat deposits in this area. With weight loss, the effects of aging, and even heredity, both men and women can lose skin tone and upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. There can also be some excess fat in these areas as well.  Dr. Jones will discuss Brachioplasty surgery with patients who want to tighten this skin and restore a more youthful appearance to their arms. In some cases Dr. Jones may suggest that liposuction be used alone or in conjunction with an arm lift to remove excess fat in the upper arms.

The lifting of both arms takes two to three hours and is done under general anesthesia.
Some of these risks of arm lift surgery include infection and blood clots. These can be treated easily and are rare. The surgery can improve the appearance of the upper arms, however the procedure has been known to leave scarring along the medial aspect of the upper arm.  Most scarring will fade over a period of time, but some scarring can be severe and may require a second operation.

Following arm lift surgery, detailed instructions are given to the patient as to postoperative care and activity. It is important for a patient to follow these instructions in order to minimize any complications and to help achieve the best results. Dr. Jones will also advise the patient as to when they can return to their normal activities. Most patients are able to return to work within one week, and more strenuous activities in about three weeks following surgery.
